1-2-3 Come Do Some More Columbus Day Activities With Me!

I had several requests for some 10-frames to use on Columbus Day, and quickly whipped them off this morning.   Click on the link to view/download the 10-frames packet for Columbus Day.

While I was putzing with the Columbus clip art for the 10-frames, I decided to make a set of alphabet cards that you could also use for your Columbus Day activities.  

I always liked to have extra centers and games for my kiddo's to do on special days, especially when I didn't have the time to do something specific.

These worksheets are quick and easy to implement into your Columbus Day activities.  They cover a variety of standards and are nice for table top lessons, Daily 5 activities or to send home as homework. I've included a Happy Columbus Day bookmark to give students when they complete their lessons.

Cover math on Columbus Day with these number activities.  Print, laminate and trim into puzzles, or run off for each student to have a trace and write booklet. Numbers go from 0-120, as well as pages for skip counting by 3's and 10's.

Each set includes counting from 1-10, counting backwards from 10 to 1 and skip counting by 10's to 100.  Print, laminate and trim.  Keep each puzzle in its own Baggie.  These make a nice independent math center, or run them off and give each child a choice of one to cut and  put on their own template, to later take home to further reinforce number sequencing.  Choose 3 or 4 and make a puzzle "Flip & Find" booklet.

All sorts of writing activities with a Christopher Columbus theme:  Two class books, a trace-cut & glue booklet, venn diagram, KWL, several adjective activities + fast facts about Columbus to test reading comprehension and supply information for students to complete some of the wriitng activities.

Review place value in an interesting way by having students find the place value of Columbus' special date: 1492.  Includes a 1492 place value mat + place value manipulatives for 1's, 10's, 100's, & 1,000's place value cubes and rods.  Make this even more fun by playing a game.  Students choose a partner and take turns spinning the place value spinner.  The object of the game is to be the first to collect all of the place value cubes and rods that make up the year 1492.  As another math extension, have children figure out the current year and then subtract 1492 from it to find out how many years ago Columbus sailed the blue.
