An interesting and fun way to introduce a lesson, is with a KWL.  This is a graphic representation of what students KNOW, WHAT they WANT to find out, and finally, what they have LEARNED, when you've completed your unit.  There are quite a few topics in the fall that lend themselves to KWL's.  I've made one for apples, leaves, pumpkins, bats, spiders, turkeys and pilgrims to see you through the months of September through November.  I've also included a personal KWL for each one, so that students can practice their writing.
