Students peel red, yellow and green broken crayons and then "shave" them with a crayon sharpener to make a small pile. This craftivity definitely has the Wow! factor.
Children pinch a bit and sprinkle the shavings on the apple that they cut out, being careful not to get any on the area where the poem is. Teacher puts a piece of wax paper on the top and then presses down for a few seconds, with an iron on its lowest setting.
Gently peel back to reveal the awesome effects. Students add a construction paper leaf and stem, and write their name on the leaf. Completed projects make an awesome bulletin board, or can be hung back-to-back from the ceiling, by punching a hole in the stem and tying on a piece of yarn.
