Children trace the color words and a circle, triangle, rectangle, square, heart, and oval.

I have my students trace the shapes and words in that specific color as a listening and following direction skill.  

Children will enjoy the fact that they help solve the mystery and save the day at the conclusion of the story simply by knowing their shapes.
Review concepts of print by reading the story as a whole group.
