1-2-3 Come Chicka Boom With Me!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is one of my all-time favorite teaching books.  Students enjoy the bright colors and the silliness of letters climbing up a coconut tree, that go "boom boom" once they get to the top.

I designed "Me and the Coconut Tree" as an activity that students could independently work on after the story.  Children trace and write the numbers and number words.  Using a bingo dauber, they dot however many coconuts match that numbered tree.

The story concludes by having students fill in how many coconuts are beside the tree based on how old they are.  They are also instructed to draw a picture of themselves. "__________________ (however old you are) coconuts beside the coconut tree and me!"
