Are you taking part in Read Across America? Challenge your students to "Read to succeed!" and see who can read the most books during March is Reading Month.  This free Seuss-themed reading log can also be used any time.

Practice rhyming words with Dr. Seuss. You assign a word, or give students a choice.  Children write the word on the brim of their Seuss hat and then think of as many words as they can that rhyme with it.  Students jot their words on a sheet of scratch paper, then write them in aphabetical order on their hat.

Practice a variety of standards with this quick, easy and fun February emergent reader flip booklet.  There are 4 pages on one template for quick printing.

These 18 groundhog-themed cards are a fun way to review some groundhog information, as well as rules for appropriate grammar.   Read the cards together as a whole group.  Choose a student to come up and circle letters that should be capitalized and then add end punctuation

The Spin and Read Word Game packet includes an alphabetical Dolch word list for Pre-Primer, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades, plus the Dolch list of nouns.  This game is played as a whole group.

This mitten-themed emergent reader, is a quick, easy and fun way to have students practice simple writing skills and end punctuation.  Completed projects make an adorable winter bulletin board.  Scatter the mittens on a background of blue snowflake wrapping paper, with paper cut out snowflakes or white doilies for a border.

Review the ug word family with this hot chocolate mug craft.  Completed projects make a sweet winter bulletin board.  (For that finishing touch, have children glue their photo to the center of the snowflake.) If students write the words on the back, then punch a hole in the handle and suspend from the ceiling.

This snowflake craftivity packet, is a super-fun way to review word families. The activities are great for independent word work or Daily 5.  Completed projects make an awesome winter bulletin board

This little booklet packs in quite a few standards.  Students trace and write the numbers and number words; they read the simple sentences and add end punctuation, then color the pictures in the group/set. Review adding one more to complete the next grouping as students count from 1 to 10.
