Painting a yellow and orange stripe on a styrofoam cup, will literally take your kiddos just a few minutes, and is a fun October center activity, or something simple and fun to do on Halloween party day. 

Set aside to dry; insert an upper or lowercase letter cup (or do double duty and put in both).  Call out a letter.  Students twirl their cup 'til the arrow matches the letter they are looking for; then they turn 'til they match the lowercase letter with the uppercase one.  What a fun way to whole group assess letter recognition, as you play "I Spy a Letter!" with your kiddos.
