Help students practice letter recognition with these fun search and find "craftivities."  Children choose a fall template, trace it, cut it out and then search for upper and lowercase letters that begin with that particular shape: i.e. a child who chooses an apple, will look for Aa's. They circle and count the letters as they go.  The matching worksheet, has a child predict how many letters they think they will find.  Later, they fill in the rest of the data.  Two graphing extensions are also included.

A quick, easy and fun way for students to practice letter recognition.  The science fact, that apples are 3 colors, is reinforced by children using red, yellow and green crayons to identify the letters.

"I Spy!" is a quick and easy way to whole group assess upper or lowercase letters. Choose one to review.  Teacher starts the game by calling out a letter. Children search for that letter on their paper, circle or color it and then raise their hand.  Tell them to use only a red, yellow or green crayon. When everyone has found the letter, teacher then calls on a quiet child to choose the next letter.

Increase vocabulary by reinforcing words associated with apples. Have students write them in alphabetical order to practice spelling as well as alphabetizing. Encourage students to use these words in their writing journals.  The owl clip art is by Laura Strickland.
